236: The Quality Onion All Ireland Championship – Qualifier.

Indoor Classes ➤ Horticulture ➤ Garden Produce Sun 13th Jul 2025

Rules & Conditions:

  • In this competition the produce must be the property of & grown by the exhibitor.
  • Each exhibit is to consist of the following:
  • A dish of 5 onions of any variety.
  • The onions may be grown from either seed or sets.
  • The onions may be Autumn or Spring sown. The variety to be correctly named.
  • Each onion must be tied & weigh not more than 450grams.
  • The onions to be harvested and have clear unbroken skins.
  • A special qualifying class will be held at selected shows.
  • Two exhibits may qualify for the Final, if the Judge’s agree that the standard is high enough.
  • The competition will be judged as follows:
  • Condition/Quality – 25 points;  Uniformity & Shape – 25 points;  Size/Weight – 10 points;  Colour – 10 points;  Overall presentation/attractiveness - 10 points.
  • Judge’s decision will be final at all stages of the competition.
  • Exhibits are displayed at owner’s risk.
  • These rules should be read in conjunction with the ISA rules.
  • Entry Fee to Qualifying Shows €3.00;   To Final €6.00.
  • Prizes at Final – 1st - €150.00; 2nd - €100.00; 3rd -€75.00; 4th - €50.00; 5th /6th €25.00.
  • Each of the successful qualifiers will receive a memento on appearance at the Final – Virginia Show Wednesday 21st  August 2024.

Only pre-paid entries will be accepted.

ALL EXHIBITS MUST BE IN PLACE BEFORE 10.30AM. Judging - 11.00am Sharp.
